Gifted & Talented TaraNet

TaraNet GATE (Gifted & Talented Education) teachers met this afternoon via VC to discuss what they were doing in their GATE programmes with a view to future sharing & collaboration. We are lucky to have Ingrid from Patea Area School to lead discussion as in her previous life she was a GATE advisor.

Ideas for shared GATE activities:

A good example of a cluster collaborating to provide GATE opportunities for students is CoroNet’s Year 10 ProbLit programme

There is further possiblity for pan cluster collaboration with these sorts of programmes. Your timing is perfect. We are implementing a similar programme with our students here. I have put a proposal to the principals.

You have some good ideas that we didn't think of. Our G&T co-ordinators have been having ongoing discussion for some time using the VC and Google Groups.

A good chance for ePrincipals to share what they are doing on this. Perhaps I should create a folder on the VLN where we can share programmes/policies/proposals? Or even on a wiki.

It would be great for our kids to join in with other clusters. Carolyn & I have discussed FarNet students coming onboard. This would especially suit the context outlined in the C4 document "Postcards from Taranaki" This year will be a trial and then branch out from there.
I want to see this project not only contributing to the learning needs of our students but as a vehicle to strengthen our cluster culture as a dynamic learning community.
