I've just been in Derek's workshop "Web 2.0 and the School LMS? What's the connection?" A great introduction to 'web 2.0' but though i know all that stuff i just love listening to Derek because he always reminds me 'it's all about the kids!!!' And there are no better kids than our own to illustrate that point. I would just like to know tho how I could get my sons to be more like his daughter and actually do homework as well as all the other stuff they do online - their multitasking abilities don't seem to stretch that far...
Yesterday at the Art Centre coffee shop i had an interesting interlude with this young man as we took each other's photos - again a great reminder that it's all about the kids. Don't forget that this week @ ULearn.
And the final reminder are from our own little helpers @ ULearn Liam and Michael who say check out their cool web sites:

Hi from Michael and Liam who you met yesterday, your blog rocks!
"It's all about the kids" is a "mother statement" Rachel - hard to refute - easy to embrace - but if you check out the Enabling the 21st Century learner e action learning plan stuff from the MoE you will discover that in truth we are driven by decision making and funding about other stuff like "It's all about society" and "It's all about economics" and "Its all about politics", "Its all about technology" or even "Its all about pedagogy"
Had lots of fun being Bardwired on the last day of the conference - you must expect some very confused contacts from ULearn6 participants in next month or so
oh yes well it's hard not to make mother statements when u discover u have been a badged member of the sock whisperers clan all along :-) ... i am well aware of the 'competing rationale' behind ed. tech. & know that the policyscape is not just about the kids - & that was quite evident to me when Steve Mahary swept past our little ULearn red shirted brigade who were all ready to interview him to hurry to the auditorium to make his grand announcements.
It seems that we are preparing the cogs in the machine for a new age - just as happened in the past huh?
But 'it's all about the kids' is what drives me so this is what i focus on as i try and rationalise the interests other 'stakeholders' have in our kids - & this is what will focus me too as i map my way forward from here.
Uuummm your last statement is pretty cryptic - maybe email me or i will wait & see what comes up :-)
ok thought about ur last statement some more & have clicked - doh! Hope u didn't get me into too much trouble in the guise of bard - ha ha :-)
Ha - my reputation is most egregious Rachel - is already completely beyond repair/redemption
I will admit that I quite enjoyed the credibility and respect afforded to me as Bardwired - it is rumoured that that the unsuspecting registrant from Dunedin who ended up with Artichoke's name tag was escorted from the conference hall before the closing keynote - then again may just have been the need to catch an early flight
